02/27/2006 Archived Entry: "Raised by the Internet"

Derek and I picked up our new puppy (well, he's 13 mo.) Helix Marwood (Marty). Helix is being officially raised by the internet: not only is this how I've found all my breed information (he's a Basenji), but recent web searches have included "introducing dogs to cats," "innova evo protein," "Vancouver fenced dog parks," "pulling on a leash," "clicker training," and most recently "separation anxiety." I mean seriously-- why do I have to be in the room just to be slept on?

I should probably mention we had to bring Marty back to the breeder, after he bloodied our dog trainer, our dogwalker's dog, and almost severed our dogwalker's finger (OK, a bit of an exaggeration; but she did need many stitches and broke a bone). Marty apparently has a big issue with being left with others, which strongly suggests he's not a city dog. Hope you're frolicking in the country lil' Marty!*
