What I'll miss in San Jose (because I'll be flying home from San Francisco): Experimental Gameplay Workshop 2002. If that waffle I've been praying to is any good at all, I'll at least get some more information about what results.
Derek is sexy and sends me good links, like this Everquest study (May, 2001). I then pillage that resource for links like a study on the relationship between character and self by the same author, and Role-Playing Characters and the Self, an informal study about traditional role-playing which also looks interesting. And all I have to do is mention Derek is sexy in my weblog-- sweet deal for me.
None of these would be considered authoritative research studies, but they still offer some good insights (on subjects it's difficult to get authoritative research on.)
