An upcoming edu-doc game: Snapshot from Imaginary Productions Inc., uses the role of photojournalist to create a game promoting active citizenship and social responsibility. One of the interesting aspects of photography it plays upon is the need to "set yourself up," in a sense, with the target subject in order to better position yourself to fulfil your role as documentarian. However, the game may be limited by its Content-based approach, given the potential for Technique-based games for critical engagement with media representation. Hopefully, this one makes it past the demo stage-- would love to be at the Serious Games Summit to hear more about it.

"Robots are, at heart, philosophical objects. When we regard them, with their weird mix of humanlike and alien behavior, we meditate on the nature of ourselves." (from Collision Detection)

Yup.

The processes are real: Spring_Alpha allows you to rewrite the rules by which this simulated society runs. How effectively you cause change apparently depends on your flair for spreading new ideas. Or perhaps your skill at "hacking and altering the code." Not quite sure how this works, but sounds very interesting... (via We Make Money Not Art)
