Seems like a lot of conference calls, book calls, journal calls, exhibition calls... so I'm expecting by next year, we'll all be officially sick of game research, and can move on to other pursuits, like that pesky cure for cancer. Not that I'm complaining-- well, except that I'm far too busy to take advantage of half of these opportunities. Or am I? Lets see, there's the IDMAa in sunny...Ohio! (isn't it supposed to be spelled "Orlando"?), this year's Popular Culture Association Digital Games area call, the Grand Theft Auto Essay Collection, there's the one-day affair at the London Metropolitan University (can't find the call just now...no, wait, it's Mindplay)
Not ludically-inclined, but I'm also intrigued by Technology of Memory in the Arts.

Tuesday, September 13, 2005Sonic Constructs is an interactive sonic installation using Mindstorms robotics. As the robots negotiate (scratch, move, collide, and of course break apart and leave Lego bits all over) a resonant soundstage, they create a collaborative composition that is then further manipulated...because generative just ain't pretty? Bonus points to Sonic Constructs for acknowledging and incorporating one of the glorious truths of Lego...the delicate and ephemeral nature of Lego constructions.
