Not good. It seems Constructionism pioneer and Mindstorms author Seymour Papert has been in a coma following a traffic accident in Hanoi. Looks like he's pulling through...still, you can leave virtual flowers here, since, you know, us Papertistas have to *do* stuff, as well as think about it.

My long awaited (OK, perhaps just by me...but it has been a long wait) paper on games and photography is now available in Games and Culture's current issue. It's a significantly expanded version of a very short presentation paper I gave at Entermultimediale in Prague. Thought the topic deserved more than 2 pages, hope others agree.

Popular Science ran this (sadly far too short) article on Fembots in August. Although their 'fembot' (sorry... 'gynoid'... ugh, that sounds awful) gallery leaves something to be desired. Come on, Lisa is *not* a robot in Weird Science! (sorry, have to disagree with Wikipedia on that one). And what's with the detached faces?

The article takes a somewhat bizarre turn into attempting to map the changing role of the so-called fembot (of course, this includes robots of any gender performing domestic chores) to changing social roles. Not particularly convincing, but whatever makes you feel better about the uneasy robot subtexts of power and domination. Everyone loves a good slave, and surely there's nothing creepy about naming your roomba after your favorite porn star.

Also, evil Maria is not a cyborg...OK, I'll stop now...

I remember finding this a while back when prepping my digital art course, but I forgot how beautiful Alison Mealey's Unreal Art was. Also cool is the hows and whys Alison includes on the site.

The Slamdance Guerilla Gamemaker Competition has posted it's 2007 finalists. This is a great opportunity to disseminate those "commercial suicide" titles that deserve a fair break.
